President Barack Obama gives PM Narendra Modi a tour of the Martin Luther King Jr memorial.
A very good initiative by PM Modi and President Obama to strengthen the ties between India and US who are two largest pillars of democracy in the world. Though there may be some varied economic and strategic interest between these two democratic countries as no two countries will be placed in similar situation same time in all the areas of concern, but there may be other areas of potential cooperation where the actions of each one will be complimenting the action of other in pursuing their respective needs. Cooperation in global anti-terror activities, technology transfer in clean energy, the environment and defense provides immense avenues of benefits to both the countries. Similarly, joint research in health care and space science will provide win-win situations to both the countries. India’s demographic dividend and demand can provide a skilled labor force and vibrant market.
It was Narendra Modi’s first visit to the United Nations and hopes were high that the man much lauded as a natural orator would mesmerize everyone with a stellar speech.
Modi’s visit also comes at a time when his government is looking to attract more foreign investment as part of efforts to bolster the country’s economy.
